The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) and Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) are partnering to provide the public with the opportunity to properly dispose of any unwanted or outdated pesticides you may have sitting in storage through the Virginia Pesticide Collection Program.

Since its inception in 1997, Virginia’s Pesticide Collection Program has collected and destroyed more than 1.8 million pounds of pesticides. Available at no cost to eligible participants, the program is supported by pesticide fees collected by VDACS. No general fund tax dollars are used to implement the program. The program rotates between five regions throughout the state once every five years. This year, the program will hold collections in the southwest region.

What is accepted?

Agricultural, commercial and homeowner pesticides, weed and feed solutions, pesticide dilutions

Not accepted:

Regular paints, contaminated waste, oil, fertilizer, batteries, tires, medical waste, etc.

The local VDACS 2024 Pesticide Collection site is: Southern States, 885 Roanoke St., Christiansburg on Oct. 17, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Pre-registration is highly recommended to ensure that the contractor prepares enough transportation. Please contact your local Extension Office to register or complete the form on the VDACS website: https://www.vdacs.virginia.gov/pesticide-collection.shtml.
