Members of the RHS Class of 76, along with RHS faculty and students, have kicked off the establishment of the RHS Class of 76 and Friends Career Advancement Scholarship.

The annual scholarship will be awarded to a deserving senior at Radford High School who desires to pursue a vocational/industrial/technical career that may, or may not, require further traditional college education.

The scholarship is a culmination of two years of discussion with members of the RHS Class of 76 and former superintendent of Radford Public Schools, Rob Graham, former assistant superintendent, Ellen Denny, educational specialist, Jamie Little, and RHS career coach, Margaret Sproule. The bicentennial class of 1976 is the largest graduating class in the school’s history with 176 graduates.

The scholarship was announced during the first Bobcat Career Chats of the 2024-25 academic year. The Class of 76 currently donates funds for the lunch provided during the biweekly career chats. Cliff Thompson, a RHS Class of 76 alumnae, was the guest speaker. He spoke about starting his career taking electrical classes at RHS, then attending NRCC to study electrical technology, leading to a 30+ year career with Dominion Energy, beginning as a technician, moving up into management and obtaining his bachelor’s degree along the way. After retiring from Dominion, he became the GM/VP at a different energy company and has recently started his own consulting business.

The RHS Class of 76 and Friends Career Advancement Scholarship is managed by the RHS Foundation. Contributions are continuing. The first annual scholarship will be awarded in 2025.
