Dave Albig, of Radford, died Sunday, June 30, 2024 from stage four pancreatic cancer.
He was born in Schenectady, N. Y., to Dale W. Albig and Mildred E. Wendelken Albig. He was preceded in death by his parents and his only sibling, Cheryl A. Albig.
He is survived by Pegeen Horth Albig, his wife of 55 years.
Dave and Pegeen, AKA Pogo, met at Radford University as first-year professors. In 1968, they were married in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Dave and Pogo had no children, but they did have many beloved dogs and cats as family members.
After graduating from Fayetteville Manlius High School, near Syracuse, N. Y., Dave earned his B.S. at Michigan State University, his M.S. at the University of Illinois, and his Ph.D. at the Florida State University. He taught mathematics for one year at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, N.Y., and was a professor of mathematics at Radford University from 1966 to 2003. He served as chairman of his department from 1977 until 2000. He wants to thank his outstanding colleagues and his very capable students. In 2000, he was presented with the Radford University Foundation Award for University Service.
In accordance with Dave’s wishes, no visitation or service is planned. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Albig Mathematics Scholarship at Radford University.
The Albig family is in the care of the Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
