BLACKSBURG – Radford University graduate Megan Hawley has been chosen the next principal at Margaret Beeks Elementary School.
Hawley is also a graduate of MCPS and has held positions within the district including teacher and assistant principal. Since 2019, Hawley has served as the assistant principal at Auburn Elementary School.
“It’s such a pleasure when we’re able to promote home-grown talent into leadership positions,” said MCPS Superintendent Bernard Bragen Jr. “She’s flourished in every position she’s had with MCPS and I’m confident she’ll do the same as the principal at MBES.”
Prior to joining the AES administrative team, Hawley taught in elementary classrooms for 11years, including at MBES.
“While I am sad to leave the Auburn community, I will cherish the relationships and experiences I have gained from my time at AES,” Hawley said. “I am so excited to return to the Margaret Beeks community, and I am honored to serve as their new principal. I look forward to meeting the students and collaborating with staff, families and the community. I am ready for an exciting journey with the Beeks Bears!”
Hawley’s educational background includes an undergraduate and master’s degree from Radford University. She’s currently pursuing her doctoral degree from Radford University with a focus on Increasing Administrative Support to Reduce Teacher Burnout.
Hawley will begin leading MBES on July 1, 2024. She will replace Dr. Beth Poff who is retiring at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
