May 13-19, 2024 is National Police Week, which originally began in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day and the week in which the date falls as National Police Week.
“The week is dedicated to remembering every officer who selflessly gave their lives for others,” the Radford Department of Police announced this week. “It is a time to show honor for their service and sacrifice and a time to say thank you to those who currently serve. During National Police Week we honor and remember all heroes who have given their lives serving communities everywhere and we thank the men and women who continue to put their lives on the line every single day.”
