RADFORD- Glencoe Mansion has announced a new art show, “Voyager,” by Roanoke based artist Nick Milinazzo.
The show will be on display May 8 through June 23. There is an opening reception Thursday, May 16, from 5 – 6:30 p.m.
Milinazzo presents “Voyager,” which takes the audience through the progression of his work spanning the past three years. As Milinazzo explores new styles and iterations of his work, he says his voyage is also a way of self-reference. Using composition, color theory, and reflection, “Voyager” is a stunning exhibition that allows for open interpretation and is visually engaging. The opening reception falls on the same day as his milestone 40th birthday.
“When I begin a painting, I have no preconceived notions as to what the end-product will look like,” said Milinazzo. “Through a process of intuition and spontaneity, I attempt to coax the image out of a panel. This involves both the building up and subsequent removal of numerous layers of pigment. The back-and-forth process (layering, blending, scraping, wiping away) will imbue the work with a sense of movement and energy. I do not use brushes when working, but instead a set of different scrapers. This allows me to become more active with the piece – using the force of my entire arm and body. My abstract paintings are fictive models: they make visible an inorganic reality that cannot be found in nature alone.”
Glencoe Mansion, Museum and Gallery is located at 600 Unruh Drive in Radford and is free to visit. This exhibition is suitable for all ages. Glencoe is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 – 4 p.m.
