Auburn defeated George Wythe 16-1 this past week to finish the Mt. Empire District regular baseball season 12-0.
Jared Lavergne was four of four for the third time during the week to lead the offense. Brody Hensel, Brady Hale and Josh Givens all added two hits each with Hale picking up four RBI’s and Graham Alley driving in three runs.
Givens picked up the win on the mound allowing one hit with eight strikeouts over three innings.
Blacksburg boys down Cave Spring
The Blacksburg boys’ soccer team remained unbeaten with a 5-1 win over Cave Spring. Sean DeLorenzo had two goals with Addison Bass, Craig Huxtable and Keanan Kopp picking up individual goals.
Auburn shuts out Ft. Chiswell
The Auburn girls’ soccer team moved to 12-4 on the season with a 6-0 win over MED-foe Ft. Chiswell. Senior Katie Light had two goals as five different Eagles had individual scores.
Senior Josie Agee-Helms and Sophomore Kennedy Marshal split halves in the goal to gain the shutout.
Auburn takes county win
The Auburn boys’ soccer team is 10-2-1 on the season after a 3-1 win over cross-county rival Eastern Montgomery.
Sophomore Jared Bradley scored all three Eagle Goals to collect the hat trick. Junior Clayton Holloway scored for the Mustangs, who fell to 11-4.
Christiansburg softball defeats Salem
Christiansburg’s softball team picked up a 5-1 win over Salem as Kadyn Camper struck out 14 batters while only giving up one hit. She also had three hits at the plate as Christiansburg moves to 14-2 on the season.
Makaylee Hughes knocked in two runs for Christiansburg. The others were knocked in by Tyleigh Dillard, Reagan Smith and Addison Reasor. Reasor had three hits on the night.
Radford beats James River, loses one to Glenvar
The Radford Bobcats softball team beat the James River Knights on Thursday, May 2, 6 to 2. Radford got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Ariel Sutphin singled, scoring two runs, and Abie Slate grounded out, scoring a run. A single by Olivia Radford in the bottom of the third extended the lead to 4 to1. Radford piled up 10 hits in the game with Quinn Burton, Raeleigh Mills and Kathryn Price each collecting 2 hits with Price closing the door on James River with a two run single in the 6th. Quinn Burton earned the win for the Bobcats, allowing 8 hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out five.
Friday, May 3, a leadoff home run from Radford senior Addie Saunders wasn’t enough to hold off the Highlanders 14-5. Glenvar took the lead for good, scoring eight runs in the top of the second. Quinn Burton took the loss in the matchup going four innings and allowing 12 runs (2 earned).
Radford had 11 hits on the night to include Kira Rollins, Ella Cox, Saunders and Kathryn Price earning multiple hits.
Eastern Montgomery over Bland in softball
Eastern Montgomery girls’ varsity softball defeated Bland County 16-3. Alexis Artrip drove in six runs on two hits to power the Mustangs Offense. Mary Miller was the winning pitcher.
Lady Bruins over Cave
The Blacksburg High School girls’ soccer team traveled to Cave Spring Friday night and came away with a 3-0 win. Scoring for Blacksburg was Kallan Malabad, Ginny Crawford, and Braelynn Butler. Erin Bishop added three assists on the night. Paige Miller had four saves in claiming her 12th shutout of the season.
With the win, Blacksburg clinches the regular season River Ridge District title.
Blacksburg improves to 12-0-2, 8-0-2 on the season while Cave Spring drops to 9-3-2, 6-3-2.
