RADFORD – Rebecca Harris, of Radford, and Eva Hinrichsen, of Blacksburg, tied for first in the Radford Photo Club’s April challenge, photography in the dark, using artificial light.

Harris photographed the lily and koi pond in her yard, using her Nikon D5600 SLR camera to capture the colorful fish in the fading light.

Hinrichsen’s photo showed the underground prayer room at the Haedong Yonggungsa Buddhist Temple in Busan, South Korea. Also called the Korean Dragon Palace, it is part of a large, traditional group of buildings that together are considered a temple. This site was built into the cliff next to the Pacific Ocean some 600 years ago. Current buildings date back to the 1930s.

Joyce Crowder, of Dublin, won the open category with a photo of the 1944 Rat Rod owned by a musician who performs at the old Post Office near Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The old Post Office, now a country store, will also host a craft market on the lawn on weekends this summer.

The next meeting will be Thursday, May 23, at 6 p.m. at the Radford Public Library. Toni Pitts of Radford will present the works of American photographer Laura Gilpin (1891-1979) and then her own work taken in Gilpin’s style. Members will also discuss coming shows. The photo challenge is wildflowers.

The Radford Photo Club is made up of professional and amateur photographers from throughout the New River Valley. Meetings, events, and outings are open to the public. If you have questions about the club, email Lucy Gilmore at lucyg.gilmore@gmail.com or Michele Borgarelli at mborgarelli@gmail.com
