RADFORD- Grace Episcopal Church has been serving up pancakes for Shrove Tuesday for many decades, and this year proceeds from the event are supporting feeding hungry people in Radford and Fairlawn.

Grace Episcopal recently donated $1,168 to Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread (RFDB) to support its mission of feeing people a hot lunchtime meal five days a week, as well as delivering Meals on Wheels to homebound senior citizens Monday through Friday.

Karen Jones, executive director of RFDB says donations like Grace’s are essential to supporting RFDB’s mission.

“The Radford, Fairlawn, and Pulaski communities continue to be the largest donors to Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread,” said Jones. “Donations from individuals and organizations support the over 300 meals we serve each week. It is particularly impactful when our faith communities recognize the work that we do and support us with their time and talents.”

Reverend William Yagel of Grace Episcopal said RFDB’s efforts are important to the community and the church is happy to support the organization.

“Grace Church is excited to partner with RFDB and support those in need in and around Radford,” said Yagel. “RFDB provides an opportunity for the community to come together for a meal and fellowship in a warm environment where all are valued and welcomed.  This mission speaks to our call to “seek and serve Christ in all persons” and we couldn’t be more pleased to support RFDB.”

RFDB offers a hot, homemade meal to anyone who wants one Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. in its dining room, located at 501 Second St., Radford, on the lower level of the stone building at the corner of Berkley and Second Street in Radford, which is also the home of Long Way Brewing.
