The Alpha Mu Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Christiansburg will honor Lillian VanLear as their 2024 Valentine Queen on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024 at Bull and Bones, Christiansburg.

VanLear has been an active member of the Sorority since pledging to a Clifton Forge Chapter in 1969. She joined the Alpha Mu Master Chapter when her family moved to Christiansburg.

During her 55 years of membership, VanLear has served in a variety of offices and on numerous committees. She has been honored as Woman of the Year and Valentine Queen. VanLear is known for her creative and informative cultural programs.

A highlight of her membership was when she was honored with the Golden Circle Ritual, recognizing her 50 years of active membership at an impressive candlelight Ritual.

VanLear has contributed to the betterment of the Chapter and has given special participation to the varied Service Projects which help members of our community in many ways. She made and donated a handmade quilt to the Montgomery Relay for Life and has donated many handmade items for Operation Christmas Child and other missions that assist others.  She is a gifted seamstress, needle worker and a very skilled quilter.

VanLear will be crowned by Doris Caldwell, last year’s queen, following a welcome from Carolyn K. Sowers of the Social Committee.

She is a retired history and geography teacher with the Montgomery County Public Schools and resides in Christiansburg.
