The Blacksburg High School boys’ cross country team has revenged an earlier regional loss to Charlottesville and claimed this weekend’s Class 4 state crown. Blacksburg finished with 52 points to Charlottesville’s 63. Jefferson Forest was third.
The Blacksburg girls took third place with Jamestown claiming the top spot with Loudoun Valley second.
The top runner for the Blacksburg boys was Henry Strahm in seventh place with teammate Ryan Bagchi eighth. Blacksburg’s Reece Bradbury was the top place winner for the girls in sixth place.
In Class 1, Spencer Sisson was the top runner for Eastern Montgomery, finishing in sixth. Auburn’s Kasey Rosenbaum was third on the girls’ side of the course with teammate Allyson Funk ninth. Eastern Montgomery’s Alja McHone was tenth.
In the Class 3 event held at Glenhill Park in Salem, Christiansburg’s Max Craig finished in twelfth place.
Outlaw legal woes
Former Virginia Tech basketball player Ty Outlaw is facing allegations of having a sexual relationship with a student at the North Carolina school where he is teaching.
According to police reports, the sexual misconduct is being investigated as between a teacher and a student. The Person County N.C. sheriff’s office says the student’s father reported the case to authorities.
An investigation found that the incident happened outside the school at a home in the county.
Warrants show that Tyrone Khalil Outlaw, 28, faces a felony charge of a sex act with a student. Outlaw was booked into the Person County Detention Center on a $30,000 bond.
A representative for Person County Schools said Outlaw resigned from his position as social studies teacher and assistant basketball coach at Person County High School.
Outlaw played at Virginia Tech (2015-2019) and UNC Greensboro (2013-2014).
In 2019, Outlaw was cited of possession of marijuana after a search of his Blacksburg apartment. In the apartment, police say they found one white pill, two yellow capsules, an electronic vape cartridge and green plant material.
He played at Lee College, a JUCO program in Baytown, Texas before coming to Blacksburg.

Former Christiansburg High School linebacker Drew Lloyd has been moved to tight end after his transfer from Emory & Henry to Randolph. Saturday, he scored his first collegiate touchdown.
Pro soccer contract
Midfielder Gabby Johnson joins an esteemed list of Virginia Tech women’s soccer alumni competing at the professional level signing a professional contract with Tindastóll in Iceland.
“Signing a professional contract in Iceland for Tindastóll is one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me,” said Gabby Johnson.
Johnson, a graduate transfer from Delaware, made 36 career appearances at Tech, recording three goals and two assists during the 2022 regular season. She was a part of two NCAA tournament berths (2021, 2022) and mid-season top-25 national rankings during the 2021 and 2022 campaigns.
Hokies falls to OSU
Virginia Tech looked to continue Southeast Open momentum, ready to open the dual season against No. 8 Ohio State in a packed Cassell Coliseum on Friday night. The No. 5 Hokies won four bouts on the night before the Buckeyes pulled away after being neck and neck the majority of the evening with the Buckeyes taking six bouts. Sam Latona, Caleb Henson, Bryce Andonian, and Mekhi Lewis picked up wins for the home team.
No. 4 Eddie Ventresca was first up for the Hokies facing unranked Brandon Mccrone as the dual began in the 125-pounds weight class. In a surprising upset, Ventresca was only able to nail one takedown as Mccrone dominated this match putting tOSU on the board first.
Sam Latona coming in at No. 4 got the Hokies on the board in the 133-pounds class, winning his bout 5-3 against No. 16 Nic Bouzakis.
