BLACKSBURG – Two Blacksburg High School students have died after an apparent murder-suicide in a Blacksburg parking garage.

The Blacksburg Police Department responded to the parking garage, located at 723 University City Blvd., after a report of a suspicious vehicle.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered two deceased juveniles, as well as a weapon, inside the vehicle,” according to the BPD. “Both juveniles have been identified as students enrolled at Blacksburg High School. Investigators notified the next-of-kin for both individuals.”

The Blacksburg Police Department has a policy not to release the names of juveniles. Family members have identified the murder victim as Serenity Hawley, a senior at BHS.

The Blacksburg Police Department and the Town of Blacksburg are working with Montgomery County Public Schools to ensure that any services MCPS staff or students may need are available.

The BPD confined the deaths as an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community and said it is an active and ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Blacksburg Police Department Crime Tip Line at 540-961-1819 or email at bpdtipline@blacksburg.gov.
