New River Community College recently welcomed Lori Mitchell as the new dean of the division of business and technologies.
“I am excited to work with the outstanding faculty of the division of business and technologies to provide high impact training and education for students seeking credentials and degrees that meet the employment needs of the New River Valley, the Commonwealth, and beyond,” said Mitchell.
Mitchell began her new position in January after the previous dean, Debbie Bond, recently retired after 30 years at NRCC.
“I am excited to announce that Lori Mitchell has accepted the dean of business and technologies position. Lori brings a wealth of knowledge, skills, and professionalism to lead a dynamic, student-focused division of energetic faculty and staff,” said Dr. Peter Anderson, NRCC vice president for instruction and student services.
Mitchell has a bachelor’s degree in history from Virginia Tech and a Master of Public Administration degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is also working toward an Ed.D. in administrative leadership at Carson Newman University. She has more than 20 years of experience in student services at Virginia Tech, Radford University and NRCC that includes work in career services, health professions advising, cooperative education and internship programs, student activities, leadership development, enrollment management and academic advising. She most recently served as NRCC’s student success coordinator.
