RADFORD – Stacy Schwenk, a third-grade teacher at Radford City Public Schools, has been named the Radford City Public Schools Teacher of the Year for the 2022-23 school year.
Schwenk is now eligible to apply for the Virginia Region VII Teacher of the Year, which is generally announced in the late winter or early spring.
RCPS Superintendent Robert Graham recently announced Schwenk’s win.
“Stacy is a 24-year veteran educator who has served 19 of those years as a second, third, fourth, and fifth-grade teacher and reading specialist here in Radford,” he said. “She has a K-5 Elementary license as well as a K-12 Reading Specialist endorsement. She is a member of VEA and REA and loves the special bonds that she makes with the students and staff on a daily basis. We are grateful she is part of the RCPS family.”
“Stacy has four daughters, and she has spent a large amount of her personal time traveling around to watch these talented and skilled athletes as they competed or still compete for the Bobcats,” he added. “If you see Stacy in the near future, please congratulate her on this tremendous recognition.”
The other three school-level winners of teacher of the year are Amanda Bush, a kindergarten teacher at McHarg Elementary School; Andrew Graham, an English teacher at John Dalton Intermediate School; and Luke Munsey, an English teacher at Radford High School. Schwenk was chosen as the division-wide winner by her fellow RCPS personnel.
“Thank you everyone for this honor,” she said. “I am truly humbled. I want to thank you all for helping me become a better teacher every day. It all starts with building relationships that last. I appreciate each and every one of you.”
