Dr. Judy Jenks, a board-certified family nurse and the owner of The Jenks Initiative, an independent nurse practitioner primary care practice that treats patients across Virginia, and a professor in the School of Nursing at Radford University Carillion was recently awarded the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners Education Award.
Dr. Jenks was honored for demonstrating outstanding contributions to nurse practitioners in education and patient care through teaching and scholarship, student preceptorship, patient teaching, and community involvement. Jenks has also volunteered in medically underserved areas and post-disaster relief areas in Appalachia, Native American Reservations, US territories and more.
Jenks was one of five NP’s the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners (VCNP) honored during its annual conference, which was held virtually March 10-13.
The award recipients were:
Distinguished Nurse Practitioner Award – Kathleen Putnam, Lynchburg; Education Award – Judy Jenks, Radford; President’s Award – Delegate Dawn M. Adams, Virginia House of Delegates 68th District; Rising Star Award – Brenda Kozak, Amherst; and Rising Star Award – Nicole Goitia, Fairfax.
