Radford High School’s Cam Cormany has committed to play college basketball at the U.S. Naval Academy.
For now, Cormany just hopes his senior basketball season will start next month. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed a lot of things including the upcoming schedule for the Bobcats.
Cormany said it has been challenging because there have been times where he hasn’t been able to get in the gym and work on his craft.
“But I have found ways to continue to improve my game,” he said. “Also, we have been able to have team workouts so that has been good. My main focus is winning a state championship, and we are going to have the talent this year to be contenders, so hopefully we are able to have a season.”
The 6-2 guard chose Navy because he wanted to serve while fulfilling his dream of playing Division I basketball. “Also, Navy has been interested in me for a long time, and since day one, they have believed in me and been loyal and honest with me,” Cormany said. “So, I couldn’t think of a better place to go. Last, it will set me up for life financially and give me many opportunities most people don’t get.”
Cormany, who garnered All-County/All-City Player of the Year honors last season in addition to Three Rivers District and Regional Player of the Year awards, finished the season with a 21.2 points-per-game average.
“I hope to accomplish many things at Navy,” he said. “I obviously want to try and become the best possible basketball player I can while I’m there, but I also want to help my team win and hopefully make it to an NCAA tournament. Next, I want to achieve my goals of being a great student and role model.”
For now, Cormany has not chosen a major, but is interested in business while considering following in his father’s footsteps as a basketball coach.
