Earl “Cookie” Echols, Jr., 84, of Newport died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020.
He was born in Craig County, Va., on July 6, 1936, to the late Estial Earl and Mary Miller Huffman Echols. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sylvia E. Brillhart. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Fern Echols, a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Marty Cisek; sons and daughters-in-law Timmy and Sally Shupe and Lloyd and Marilyn Echols, all of Newport; grandchildren Jason and Rachel Echols, Laura and Josh Nay, Jacob Echols, Erica Maxey and Matt Ambrose, Cory and Mercy Shupe, Mary Shupe, Mike Cisek and Caity Cisek; great-grandchildren Sasha, Gabe, Rossi Echols, Matthew Echols, Ashlynn Wilkes, Jaiden and Jonah Nay; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted Monday, Nov. 9, 2020, at 3 p.m. in the Level Green Christian Church Cemetery with Cory Shupe officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
