On behalf of the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation, Chris Simpkins, store manager of the Christiansburg Food Lion, recently presented a $2,500 check to Vicky Dierckx, the food coordinator for the Montgomery County Christmas Store.
The Christmas Store will use the gift to help meet its mission of assisting eligible low-income individuals and families in Montgomery County during the Christmas season by providing a shopping experience characterized by choice and dignity. Specifically, the money will go toward purchasing oatmeal for the food baskets.
“Because of the generous Feeding the Hungry Grant of $2,500 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation, the Montgomery County Christmas Store (MCCS) will be able to provide oatmeal in the food boxes prepared for eligible low-income families,” said Kim O’Rourke, vice-president/interim president of the Christmas store. “We thank Food Lion for their ongoing support, which demonstrates their commitment to giving back to the community. Working together, we can provide food for Christmas to those in need.”
“We are so thrilled that we have received the Food Lion Charitable Foundation Grant again this year,” said Vicky Dierckx, the Christmas store’s food coordinator. “This $2,500 will help us provide oatmeal in all the food baskets given to eligible families. The mission of the Christmas Store is to assist low-income families in Montgomery County during Christmas by providing a shopping experience which includes new clothing, new toys, teen gifts and food baskets.”
Established in 2001, the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $12 million in grants.
The charitable foundation partners with Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief agency, in addition to local food agencies serving the 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states in which Food Lion operates.
