RADFORD – Anna Kleppin, the daughter of Jeff and Kathy Kleppin of Radford, is this year’s recipient of the Don and Janell Dobbins Family Community Service Scholarship.

“This is a very special scholarship and Anna is a great student to represent it,” said retiring Radford High School Guidance Counselor Pamela Chitwood.

The scholarship is for $2,000 and is an endowed scholarship invested through Ameriprise Financial in Radford.

“We’re proud to report this year’s scholarship was paid from earnings and we are already about one-third on the way to next year’s payment,” said Keith Weltens of Ameriprise Financial.

Janell Dobbins said the criteria for the scholarship includes the awardee attending a four-year college or university and having exhibited a community spirit of volunteering during high school.

“The student must have volunteered for 30 hours during junior and/or senior year at a non-profit organization such as the Radford Clothing Bank, soup kitchen, mission trip, tutor, nursing home, or something similar,” she said.

Anna will be attending the University of Virginia to be an education major. She thanked the Dobbins for the scholarship and said it will be very helpful with her expenses. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and played varsity soccer and swimming at RHS.
