The Woman’s Club of Radford continues to work to promote children’s literacy with preparation for the 2020-2021 school year and with its Babies into Books program.

Betty Overdorf and Vicki Tupman, coordinators of the Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) program, have ordered the books for fall and spring distribution at Pulaski County’s Snowville and Riverlawn Elementary Schools and Radford’s McHarg Elementary.

McHarg students (K-2) will be attending Belle Heth Elementary while their current building is being renovated. Pre-K students will be at Grove Methodist in Radford. The RIF program will continue in these locations.

Dates for the distribution of the books will be coordinated with Pulaski County and Radford City Schools in conjunction with their reopening guidelines.

The woman’s club also continues its Babies into Books (BIB) program at Carilion New River

Valley Medical Center. A book is given to every baby born at the hospital, along with a brochure with suggestions for encouraging a love of reading in children.

The brochure, printed by the Radford Public Library, includes information about the woman’s club and programs at the library. More than 24,000 books have been distributed since this program began in 1993.
