The Community Foundation of the New River Valley (CFNRV) is holding its seventh annual Giving Day, GiveLocalNRV, on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, to help organizations both big and small in the NRV raise money.
More than 45 nonprofits located in Montgomery County are participating this year in GiveLocalNRV. Close to 100 organizations that serve the entire New River Valley are participating.
The annual Online Giving Day has raised more than $1.2 million for some 100 nonprofit organizations in the New River Valley in the last six years. This year the goal is to raise $325,000, and the support to nonprofits is more important now than ever.
This year the COVID-19 Pandemic has really impacted the nonprofit community. Many have had increased services, had to purchase additional equipment to offer services virtually and had to cancel fundraisers.
CFNRV Board Chair Ed Lawhorn of Montgomery County said, “Since its inception six years ago, the Community Foundation’s giving day totals have increased each year. NRV nonprofits and their supporters and stakeholders have realized how critically important GiveLocalNRV is to achieving their fundraising goals. Numerous nonprofits in Montgomery County benefit from GiveLocalNRV, and we would encourage you to support or volunteer with the nonprofits here in our community.”
In addition to donations from community members, organizations can earn additional grant money from the CFNRV during the Giving Day. The CFNRV will be giving out $10,000 in grants to organizations that raise the most money, have the greatest number of unique donors by city/county and during designated power hours, or show creativity through videos, social media, and other marketing channels.
But donors don’t have to wait until June 24 to support their favorite organizations. Any donation received through GiveLocalNRV between through June 24 will count towards the organization’s giving-day total. Anyone may donate online today to support a favorite organization at givelocalnrv.org.
Whatever money is raised will go to support the following local nonprofit charitable organizations in Montgomery County: the Alliance for Better Childcare Strategies, Better Agreements, the Blacksburg Community Band, the Blacksburg Junior Women’s Club, the Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation, the Blacksburg New School, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia, the Children’s Trust Foundation of Roanoke Valley; the Christiansburg Institute, the Community Foundation of the New River Valley (the fund for the NRV), Dayspring Christian Academy, DePaul Community Resources, Diamonds in the Ruff of Virginia, Downtown Christiansburg, Friends of the Farmers Market, the German Club Alumni Foundation, Habitat for Humanity of the New River Valley, Hacksburg, Historic Smithfield,
