On Thursday, June 11, around 10:25 p.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 3700 block of Childress Road in the Riner area for a physical domestic situation. When deputies entered the residence, they encountered gunfire and subsequently returned fire. No deputies or the suspect were injured during the exchange.

Crisis negotiators responded to the scene after the suspect barricaded himself inside the residence. Communication was maintained for more than six and one-half hours. Shortly before 5 a.m. on Friday, June 12, the suspect surrendered to law enforcement without further incident.

45-year-old Jammie Duncan of Christiansburg was taken into custody and has been charged with attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer. Additional charges are expected, pending further investigation of the incident.
