Grad Transfer Justus Reed adds depth for Hokies at defensive end

Justus Reed, a Youngstown State graduate transfer for Virginia Tech, had 13 sacks for the Penguins in 2019.

Virginia Tech head football coach Justin Fuente announced Monday the commitment of graduate student defensive end Justus Reed, adding to the depth and talent in the defensive line led by the duo of coaches Darryl Tapp and Bill Teerlinck and dubbed ‘TNT’.

In 30 career collegiate games, Reed has 66 tackles, 19 sacks, four forced fumbles, three passes defensed and two fumble recoveries.
Reed (6-3, 270) is a native of Clearwater, Fla. He spent the last three years at Youngstown State in Youngstown Ohio. The university is a member of the Horizon League in all varsity sports, with the football team part of an alliance in which the Horizon, The Summit League,and Missouri Valley Conference Football Championship Subdivision scholarship schools compete as the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

In 2019, Reed anchored the defensive line in 2019, registering 42 tackles, including 19 tackles for loss. He also had a team-best 13 sacks for -74 yards and forced two fumbles.
Reed began his Youngstown career in 2017 and was named to the Missouri Valley All-Newcomer Team. He had 15 tackles with nine solo stops. He also forced two fumbles, recovering one himself.

Reed missed the 2018 season with an injury.
He began his career at the University of Florida from 2014-16 under coaches Will Muschamp and Jim McElwain. He played in 11 games and made nine tackles that included a tackle-for-loss against Michigan in the Citrus Bowl.
