Marvin A. Lawrence, 95, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2019.


He was predeceased by his parents, Arno and Alverta Lawrence; brother, Leon; sister, Jean; daughter, Marla Lawrence Ball; granddaughter, Beth Michele Lawrence. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Ramona Abbott Lawrence; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry (Glenda) Lawrence, Terry (Cathy) Lawrence, Timothy (Joyce) Lawrence; son-in-law and wife, Donald Ball (Glenda); seven grandsons, Alex, Asher, Logan, and Landon Lawrence, Derron, Kevin, and Eric Ball; four granddaughters, Kimberly Jubb, Jill Zosel, Takara Howard, and Lindsi Hubbard; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Lilian, Madisyn, Makenna, Emerson, Charli, Canyon, Jasper, Toriana, Bryson, Aurelia, Hattie, Nadia, Camille, and Nora.

He began working at the National Bank of Blacksburg when he was 18 years old and worked there for 47 years. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1946 and served his country as a payroll officer near the end of World War II. He was known as a kind, gentle, humble, and compassionate man who from a child, had love for God. He and Ramona opened their home regularly to all for meals, nights, and meetings of worship and praise to God. His and Mom’s love for God and for each other has been a wonderful example for the family and all who knew them.

The family received friends on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at McCoy Funeral Home, as well as on Friday, June 7, 2019 prior to the service that began at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, Blacksburg. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. Donations in his remembrance may be made to the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 1300 Progress St. NW, Blacksburg, VA 24060 and/or to Good Samaritan Hospice, 1160 Moose Dr. Christiansburg, VA 24073.
