On May 23, 2019, the Old Ship of Zion dropped anchor at the bedside of Samuel James Huff, of Blacksburg, to transport him to the portals of heaven. Those gone before him and awaiting his arrival are his loving wife, Martha Ellen Moses Huff; parents: Charles D Huff Sr., and Pearlie Linkous Huff; siblings: Carlyn (Fuzz) Huff, Roy Huff, Charles D. Huff, Jr., Clara Sheppard, Maudie Ramsey and Polly Mullens.

Born April 4, 1926, he was a loving dad to James (Judy) Huff, Sharon (Steve) Spradlin and his special daughter Nancy Jane Huff. A precious granddad to Michelle (Don) Stoner, Stacie (Dewayne) Quesenberry, Josh (Veronica) Spradlin and proud great granddad to Katelin and Daniel (Jamie) Matusevich, Savannah, Dalton, Cole and Grace Haynes, Lorelei and Grady Spradlin and great-great-grandson Sebastian Matusevich. He was a loyal brother to Laura Williams, Bill Huff, Treva Huff, Albert (Mary) Huff, Boyd (Connie) Huff and Charlene Keen. He is also survived by many loyal nieces and nephews whom he cherished.

He faithfully served God, his country and family for many years. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a long-time member of the Merrimac PH Church where he had served as Deacon, Trustee and Sunday School teacher while in good health. He also was a proud member of the Coal Mining Heritage Association of Montgomery County. Dad loved to reminisce of his days growing up in Merrimac, working at Blacksburg Hardware, Corning and Montgomery County School System. If you ever had the opportunity to visit with him at his home you would find him many times with the Bible in his hands as he loved to study and learn God’s word.

Family visitation was held on Monday, May 27, 2019 at McCoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg. Services were conducted by Rev. Kenneth Dale Huff II and Rev. Leon Alley at the Merrimac PH Church on May 28, 2019 at 11 a.m. and burial followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to Montgomery County Coal Mining Heritage Association, PO Box 511, McCoy, VA 24111.

Dad, you will be missed tremendously. Your prayer life and faith in God was an inspiration to us all. You will always be remembered with love and admiration.
