In its eighteenth year, New River Valley Voices invited area writers to submit literary pieces for the group’s juried spring Valley Voices Writing Celebration. Selected works of poetry, fiction and non-fiction will be read aloud by their authors at the celebration at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 at the Blacksburg Public Library.
Selected authors are:
B. Chelsea Adams
Mary Ellen Campagna
Cassie Keene
Nancy Leech
Carol Lischau
Paula Markham
Charlotte Morgan
Alwyn Moss
Jeff Saperstein
Valley Voices holds literary reading in the spring and fall.
The spring celebration is described on the all-volunteer group’s website as a place “between the extremes of highly competitive literary journals and open-mic venues.”
Jury selections were based on literary merit and assessment of how the piece complements the overall presented program.
Submission guidelines ask for work as-yet-unpublished or presented in the NRV, poems of up to 65 lines and/or up to two prose entries. Prose entries can be short stories, creative non-fiction, or standalone excerpts from a longer work all with a maximum cumulative total of 2,200 words. Two flash fiction entries, each 750 words or fewer, are also welcome.
