Thomas Edward Gearheart, 87, of McCoy, died Saturday, Mar. 30, 2019, at his home. He was born in Montgomery County, VA on April 10, 1931 to the late Herman W. and Myrtle Noonkester Gearheart. He was preceded in death by the love of his life of 56 years, Betty Croy Gearheart; his siblings, Lucille Linkous, Henderson Linkous, Rebecca Flinchum.
He was a longtime member of Centennial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He was honorably discharged from the National Guard. He retired with over 40 years at Virginia Tech. Tom was an avid hunter and fisherman, master wood worker, accomplished gardener, and well respected member of his community.
He is survived by his loving family, daughters, Sandra Cruise, Sharon Graham; grandchildren, Cassey Mills (Mark), Tommy Cruise (Lynett), Krystine Wirt (fiance, Chris Atkinson); great-grandchildren, Carly Palmer (Corey Poindexter), Lauren and Andrew Cruise, Thomas and Katie Wirt; sisters, Edith Hall, Josephine Lovern; as well as many nieces and nephews; special friend, Esley Dillon.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Centennial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with Rev. Steve Allen officiating. Interment will follow in the Centennial Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
