VT’s Seufer receives all-American honors in XC

Virginia Tech runner Peter Seufer earned All-America honors by coming in 16th place at the NCAA Cross Country Championships held at Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon.

Seufer, a redshirt junior from Lynchburg, Virginia, ran the 10K course in a time of 29:36.88. Morgan McDonald of Wisconsin won the event with a time of 29:08.22.

In addition, Seufer was the top ACC performer at the NCAA Championships. Brent Demarest of UVA was the closest ACC competitor behind Seufer, coming in 31st.

Strong graduation numbers

Virginia Tech Athletics found itself at the forefront of academic successes once again, as the department recorded an overall Graduation Success Rate of 92 percent in a report released by the NCAA on Monday. The Hokies’ overall GSR of 92 percent ranked tied for first among all public universities in the Atlantic Coast Conference and fifth among all schools in the league. The 92 percent also was four percent higher than the national average and represented a two percent increase from Tech Athletics’ four-average of the 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 classes released in last year’s NCAA report.

Six Virginia Tech sports programs had a perfect GSR of 100 percent – men’s golf, men’s tennis, women’s basketball, women’s soccer, women’s tennis and volleyball. In all, 15 sport programs finished at 85 percent or higher, and 11 of 17 sport programs came in above the national average of 88 percent.
