Letter to the editor
Well the election is over. I for one will not miss the campaign ads as candidates blast each other for one reason or another.
Of course the big winner in every election are the television stations. It is estimated that nationwide over $5 billion was spent on advertising in this year’s mid-term elections, which is a record. Most of the money spent on TV ads.
With all the money spent, I find it disappointing how little time and energy was spent discussing topics that need attention.
Examples: gun violence, gun control, Interstate 81 enlargements and road funding. Other topics not mentioned: alternative energy sources, casino possibilities, gerrymandering (example District 5), the drug situation in southwest Virginia and additional state funding for towns and counties in the state.
I realize these are all sensitive subjects, but we are not going to go anywhere if we don’t take a step forward.
