Jessica Wollman, a senior soccer player at Radford University, has been named a finalist for a national senior award. She excelled on the field at Blacksburg High School before attending RU.

She was originally named one of 30 candidates for the award in September. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

The 10 finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the 30 candidates previously announced, and each will now be included in a nationwide fan vote.

Fan votes, which can be submitted on the Senior CLASS Award website through November 18, will be combined with media and Division I head coaches’ votes to determine the winner. The final results will be announced during the 2018 NCAA Women’s College Cup championship later this fall.

A local product of Blacksburg, Wollmann has played in 62 matches and started 56 in her career. She has tallied 20 goals in her time at Radford, including 10 game-winning goals, which ranks her T-1st in program history with Susan Melanson (1998-2001) and Julie Ruh’e (2010-13). Wollmann has also collected 17 assists and 57 points across her 4,434 minutes played.

Wollmann has a team-best eight goals already this season, which is currently third in the Big South and marks a new career high. She also ranks third in the Big South for shots per game (3.46), third in points per game (1.38) and first in game-winning goals (4).

Not only is Wollmann a valuable asset on the pitch, but she also is a valuable asset in the community. Wollmann has done a lot in her time at Radford. Heavily involved in clubs and various organizations on campus, Wollmann has been an intricate part of festivals and events around the campus and community. The 4.0 student-athlete has been on the Dean’s List every semester since 2015 and named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District and Second Team CoSIDA All-American in 2017.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
