Radford High School basketball standout Quinton Morton-Robertson is staying at home to continue his basketball career at Radford University. He also had an offer from RU Big South foe, Longwood University.
This past year, Morton-Robertson, 5’8, had another exceptional season, being named the Three Rivers District player of year and first team all-region and 2A all-state.
He was 85 of 189 (45 percent) from behind the arc and 73-129, making 56.6 percent of his two-point shots. His average rose slightly to 21.1 points per game, and he also hit upon 81.8 percent from the charity stripe.
RHS coach, Rick Cormany, said Morton-Robertson has gotten better every year.
“Q was outstanding all year, and in my opinion, was the best player on the floor, even in our disappointing loss to Gate City (in the regional playoffs). His assist to turnover ratio was 5.1 assists per game to 0.9 turnovers in 28 games,” Cormany said.
Morton-Robertson leads a team back to the court this season that will be expected to repeat on the district and regional level, and a favorite in the Class 2 ranks. His teammate, Miles Jones, is the son of RU coach Mike Jones.
Radford High School finished 27-1 last season with the lone loss coming to Gate City in the state quarterfinals. He is ranked as the 32nd player in the state of Virginia.
Radford University won the Big South Tournament this past season, advancing to the NCAA tournament losing to eventual national champion, Villanova. The Highlanders have four seniors this season, two being guards.
So far, RU has not released the names of any other 2019-20 recruits, but the Highlanders have made offers to 6’5 guard Jalen Cincore from Bartlett, Tennessee, 6’6 Cameron Brown of Greenbelt, Maryland and 6’5 guard Dereon Seabron from Massanutten Military Academy.
