Virginia Tech announced its 2018-19 women’s basketball schedule on Friday, a slate that includes matchups with four programs that played in the 2018 NCAA Tournament and another that competed in the WNIT.
“I am very excited about our 2018-19 nonconference schedule,” Tech Head Coach Kenny Brooks said. “Returning all five starters from last year’s WNIT runner-up team combined with the addition of four talented newcomers … we wanted a schedule that complimented our rigorous ACC slate and would give us a chance to reach our ultimate goals. The program is progressing, and this schedule will give Hokie Nation a chance to cheer us on versus quality opponents.”
The Hokies will play host to eight games at home in Cassell Coliseum beginning with the season tipoff on Nov. 6 against USC Upstate.
Tech once again will compete in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge this year, facing the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Nov. 28 on Carilion Clinic Court. The Hokies have secured a win in the competition in each of the past three seasons, including each of Brooks’, defeating Nebraska in 2016 and Illinois in 2017.
Tech will head south to the Sunshine State on two occasions for tournaments, first participating in the UCF Thanksgiving Classic versus the University of Richmond and Villanova on Nov. 24 and 25. The Hokies also will play in the West Palm Invitational against Dayton and Ohio State, two programs that played in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
Tech’s non-conference slate will conclude with a Dec. 29 date against the Longwood Lancers.
Television designations will be announced at a later date in addition to the tip time for Tech’s Big Ten/ACC Challenge contest against Rutgers.
