Six student athletes from Radford University were named to the 2017-18 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State Team on Monday. Fraser Colmer (men’s soccer), Myles Creighton (men’s golf), Kaylor Nash (volleyball), Kyle Palmer (baseball), Natalie Sayer (women’s tennis) and Jessica Wollmann (women’s soccer) represented the Highlanders on the list.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and be a sophomore or higher. In total, 217 student-athletes from 37 colleges and universities across the Commonwealth were recognized. Each institution could nominate up to six student-athletes.
One of the most prolific players in Radford men’s soccer history, Colmer posted a 3.99 GPA in Management. The Southampton, England native earned Big South Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors before being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-America First Team. United Soccer Coaches also selected him for the Scholar All-South Region First Team.
Hailing from Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada, Creighton turned his hard work as a Finance major into a 3.8 GPA. He was named the Big South Men’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, making him the first men’s golfer in school history to garner the award in back-to-back years.
Nash helped lead Radford volleyball to a Big South title while taking care of business in the classroom. She earned a 3.88 GPA in Exercise, Sport & Health Education and was a finalist for Big South Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Making his way back from Tommy John surgery in 2016 to serve as one of Radford’s top relievers in 2018, Palmer stayed focused in his pursuit of academic excellence to earn a 3.63 GPA. The Ashland native studied Fitness, Strength & Conditioning.
Finishing out a stellar career on the court, Sayer achieved a 3.9 GPA in Marketing and Management.
A Blacksburg product majoring in Anthropology, Wollmann led the way with a perfect 4.0 GPA. In her junior season she was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team and All-America Second Team as well as United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Academic Third Team.
All six student-athletes were also named to their respective Big South All-Academic teams.
