MONTGOMERY COUTNY—Two 16 year olds, a male driver and female passenger, both from Christiansburg, were involved in a fatal car crash Sunday night, according to a release from the Montgomery County Sherriff’s Office.
The passengers were identified by the Victorian Restoration Church’s Facebook page as Ashlyn Poole and Alex Leonard. Poole was pronounced dead at the scene.
Leonard was transported to New River Valley Medical Center with serious injuries. He has since been moved to Roanoke.
The church’s page updated Leonard’s condition early Monday afternoon.
“He has been able to have his breathing tube removed. We thank God for this improvement. Keep praying for him, his family, and Ashlyn’s family too,” the post read.
At 11:05 p.m. Sunday, the sheriff’s office responded to a single vehicle crash in the 1900 block of Mud Pike Road located in Montgomery County.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the 2015 Ford Focus ran off the roadway and overturned down an embankment.
Members from Christiansburg Fire and Christiansburg Rescue also responded to the scene.
The crash is still under investigation.
