Ameriprise Financial advisors, employees and clients recently came together to help families and individuals in Radford.
Organized by Keith Weltens and Mark Tapp, more than a dozen people volunteered at Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread making and serving meals, as well as sorting the pantry room.
This effort was focused on helping the 41 million people, including 13 million children and more than five million seniors, who struggle with hunger in the U.S.
The event was the first of two national days of service Ameriprise arranges each year in partnership with Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization.
On June 15, more than 4,000 Ameriprise financial advisors, employees and clients spent the day participating in more than 240 volunteer events across the country.
After becoming aware of hungry people in Radford, a group of citizens and the Radford Ministerial Association began RFDB in 1992.
Over the past few years, Radford Fairlawn Daily Bread has worked as a partner agency with Feeding America Southwest Virginia.
Through this relationship, we have access to donated food from Wal-Mart and from dining services at Virginia Tech.
Pick up and storage of donated food is regulated by Feeding America to maintain quality. Our food service has grown to over 20,000 meals annually.
