Christiansburg High School’s distance medley relay team recently won the Emerging Elite division at the New Balance National Outdoors meet in Greensboro. The team included: Trey Wilson, Ethan Mills, Cooper Neeble and Alex Watty.

Christiansburg High School sent seven athletes to participate in the New Balance Nationals Outdoor track meet hosted by the National Scholastic Athletics Foundation at Aggie Stadium in Greensboro, North Carolina June 15-17.

The youngest participant was Caleb Henley, a freshman, who qualified with a 20’2” long jump at the Colonel Classic during the spring track season. Caleb was able to finish 17th at the national meet.

Christiansburg also sent an SMR (sprint medley relay) team. The team consisted of Zach Lewis, Abdul Delaney, Alex Watty, and Ethan Mills. The team ran at the hottest part of the day and was still able to break the school record by over six seconds with a time of 3:34.31.

On Sunday, with more sweltering heat, the DMR (distance medley relay) team took the track around 10 a.m.

The team consisted of Cooper Neeble, Alex Watty, Trey Wilson, and Ethan Mills. Cooper led the relay with a 1200 meter run with a time or 3:16.27. The second leg was completed by Watty with a 400 meter run with a time of 50.68.

The third leg was completed by Wilson with a time of 2:00.75 on 800 meter run. The anchor leg of 1600 meters was completed by Mills with a time of 4:19.62. The team completed the race with a time 10:27.31 to win their heat. The team waited anxiously in the infield for the final heat to determine the outcome of the race.

After the last heat, Christiansburg’s DMR team was declared the winner of the Emerging Elite division at the New Balance National Outdoors.
