The Boy’s State convention at Radford University last weekend brought hundreds of donations of canned and packaged foods for use by Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread and Meals on Wheels programs.

Janell Dobbins (left), RFDB volunteer; Eddie Matthews III, Alleghany County; Nathaniel Overton, Williamsburg; and Gary Fern, volunteer, sort gifts of food from attendees at the American Legion Boy’s State, which met on the Radford University campus. Matthews and Overton were delegates to the convention who stepped in to help with receipt of canned and packaged foods donated by participants as part of the community service activity of the convention.

Rising high school seniors attending the event were asked to provide various food items to assist RFDB in its daily program of feeding those in need in the community.

Over 100 meals a day are provided to citizens in the region, both at the RFDB dining room, 501 E Main St., and delivered in the Meals on Wheels program to those home bound.

Meals are free to all who wish to take part, and the program is a community volunteer project.

For more information, contact Director Donna Fern at 336-380-5242.
