Edmunds to attend draft
The National Football League announced on Thursday that Virginia Tech’s Tremaine Edmunds has accepted an invitation to the 2018 NFL Draft at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Edmunds will be joined by Tech head coach Justin Fuente and associate head coach/defensive coordinator Bud Foster, who will also be representing the Hokies. HokieVision and the @VT_Football Twitter feed will provide exclusive behind-the-scenes coverage from the red carpet, plus all the reaction when Edmunds’ name is called.
Ranked the No. 1 linebacker in the 2018 Draft class by NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock, Edmunds is seeking to become the latest Tech alum to get his name called in the first round.
Outlaw cleared to play
Virginia Tech’s basketball team received some good news on Thursday as redshirt senior Ty Outlaw has been given a medical clearance to begin action. He tore his ACL in July of 2017 and missed all of last season. Outlaw is expected to receive a medical hardship by the NCAA for another year of eligibility.
He had averaged 6.3 points and 2.8 rebounds before getting hurt and shot 49 percent from 3-point range.
Three more All-Americans
The Christiansburg High School wrestling team has three more All-Americans after placing this weekend at the FloNationals wrestling tournament. The group included: Andy Smith (sixth place), Nick Giantonio (seventh place) and Ty Kwak (eighth place). Marshall Keller claimed a second place and earned his second All-American status during the meet.
Bradley to remain at Longwood
New Longwood College head basketball coach Griff Aldrich plans to retain assistant Dr. Ron Bradley, a former Radford University.
A 2010 Big South Conference Hall of Fame inductee and coaching veteran, Bradley joined the Lancers staff as an assistant coach in July 2016. He served as Radford’s head coach from 1991-2002, before spending the next 14 seasons at James Madison, Clemson and DePaul as an associate head coach.
Spring game is Saturday
Virginia Tech’s annual spring game is set for 3 p.m. Saturday. This will be your first chance to watch the 2018 Hokie football team. The defense will wear maroon, and the defense will be dressed in white. Quarterbacks will wear gold uniforms, and no contact will be allowed with them.
Admission and parking are free. Seating will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. The clear bag policy will be in effect.
