An original revue featuring well-known musical artists in the area is the impetus for a special dinner concert planned at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at Warm Hearth Village Center (2387 Warm Hearth Dr. Blacksburg)

The revue, The Great American Songbook, will feature songs by the country’s most celebrated composers: Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, and songs made famous by such great American performers as Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Ethel Merman, Rosemary Clooney, and Fred Astaire.

The concert will feature Catherine Breske, a long time Blacksburg singer who is known for her one-woman shows and leads in many of Summer Musical Enterprise’s fare including Guys and Dolls, South Pacific, and Anything Goes.

Todd Milsaps, associate pastor at Blacksburg Baptist Church, and soloist for the church’s many musical performances throughout the year, will be adding his amazing tenor voice to the ensemble. Todd has a velvet voice for all those great standards you know so well as sung by Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble.

Also joining the cast is Mardy Baker, the Life Enrichment Director for Warm Hearth. Mardy has many years of experience performing at comedy/improve clubs in Chicago and teaching performance art. Her most recent role in Blacksburg was as Marian, the Librarian, in SME’s production of The Music Man.

The backup trio for the revue consists of outstanding, highly respected musicians. Charlotte Smith, piano, George McNeill, bass, and Bill Ray, drums, have each been professional musicians in the NRV for 30 years.

The buffet, 3-course dinner will begin at 6 and the concert will follow. There will be a cash wine bar.

Tickets for the event are $45 per person, which includes dinner, concert, taxes and gratuity.

Tables of eight have reserved seating.

All tickets must be purchased in advance and seating is limited.

To purchase tickets or view the menu go to retire.org (under the Events tab). Tickets may also be purchased in person with cash or check at the Village Center, Warm Hearth, Monday-Friday, 9-4 p.m. Call 443-3401 to purchase tickets by phone, during the week, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
