Auburn’s Abby Wilson has already rewritten the school’s record book for doubles and is only a sophomore. For her effort, Wilson is this year’s All-County/All-City softball player of the year.Auburn’s Kyle Altizer helped lead his team to this year’s 1A state baseball championship and is the 2017 All-County/All-City baseball player of the year.Cole Beck is definitely one of the fastest athletes in the state of Virginia, claiming the 3A 100 meters with earlier this month. The Blacksburg junior also placed second at a recent national meet in the 100, and is this spring’s male track and field athlete of the year.Destiny Sweeney was a winner on the track wrecking ball this year at Eastern Montgomery. She was winner on the track in the long jump, high jump and hurdles, and is this spring’s female track and field athlete of the year.Radford High School has been a 2A soccer powerhouse for the past five years, and one of the reasons was Mary Elliott. She again had an outstanding season, being named first team all-state. She is also our All-County/All-City girls soccer player of the year.Eric Altizer (left) led the Auburn Eagles baseball team to their first ever state championship, and he is the All-County/All-City spring coach of the year.While Blacksburg fell in the state 3A state championship game in soccer, they had plenty of great players this season.
