For the third time this season, Radford claimed Big South Player of the Week honors as Jayda Worthy earned her first weekly honor, the league announced Monday after the Highlanders turned in a lusty performance to kick off conference play.

“I’m really excited for Jayda to receive player of the week honors this week. She has prepared well all season and has had a significant impact for us as we have started conference play,” said head coach Mike McGuire. “I have always believed she is one of the smartest players in the Big South.”
Radford collected a pair of 10-point wins to open Big South play, taking a 67-57 decision over Gardner-Webb and a 60-50 victory over Winthrop.
In the two wins: Worthy tallied 34 points, 16 rebounds, five assists, four steals and one block. The 34 points came 13 of 19 shooting, including an 8 for 10 clip from the free throw line. Worthy averaged 17.0 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists per game and 2.0 steals per game.
The Toledo, Ohio native poured in a career-high 20 points on 7 of 9 shooting against Gardner-Webb in the Highlanders Big South season opener. She went 6 for 8 from the charity stripe, while collecting three steals.
Worthy collected her third double-double this season on Saturday, finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Winthrop. The 14 points came on 6 of 10 shooting, corralling six rebounds each on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Worthy also dished out four assists for the fourth time on the season.
Through 13 games, Worthy has scored double-figures in eight contests. She leads the Big South with a .578 field goal percentage, making 52 of 90 shot attempts. Worthy ranks fifth in the league with a .733 free throw percentage.
“She continues to grow as a player and deserves all the credit for showing that determination each day,” McGuire added. “She does what our team needs her to do and I know our program can count on her to fulfill her role consistently. We are very proud of Jayda and the week she had.”
In the last three games; Worthy has scored 47 points, grabbed 26 rebounds and dished out eight assists.
