The Montgomery Museum of Art & History will present the Jack Hinshelwood Trio, with opening act The Mustard Cutters, on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2026, as the second concert in its Sounds of Appalachia Concert Series.

The performance will begin at 7 p.m. at The Village Center at Warm Hearth, located at 2387 Warm Hearth Dr., Blacksburg.

Sounds of Appalachia is a concert series presented by the Montgomery Museum of Art & History that celebrates the rich history of Appalachian music highlighting contemporary musicians who continue these traditions today. Through live performances, the series connects audiences with both the historical roots and contemporary practice of Appalachian music.

Led by guitarist Jack Hinshelwood, the Jack Hinshelwood Trio brings together musicians rooted in the traditional music of Appalachia. Hinshelwood is the winner of the Knoxville World’s Fair Guitar Championship, the Wayne Henderson Guitar Championship, and the Galax Old Fiddler’s Convention. Joining Jack in the Trio will be mandolinist Scott Freeman and bassist Sam West, both seasoned veterans of traditional acoustic music.

Opening the evening will be the Mustard Cutters, a Southwest Virginia string band bringing a new groove to the musical traditions of Central Appalachia. Originally formed in 2019, the band reorganized in 2026 with familiar faces, and features fiddler Gina Dilg, Haselden Ciaccio on bass, Tyler Hughes on banjo and guitar, and Ivy Sheppard on guitar and banjo. Drawing on more than three decades of combined experience and study in old-time and bluegrass music, the Mustard Cutters are guaranteed to bring an energetic sound that is sure to have audiences moving.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 the day of the concert, and $10 for students. Tickets are available through the museum’s website or at the door at Warm Hearth. For additional information, visit https://www.montgomerymuseum.org/events-page/hinshelwood-trio
