The 4th Annual Rotary Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser held Saturday, Sept. 26, proved to be a great community gathering at Church on Main.
The breakfast, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Montgomery County, brought together support from other Rotary clubs in the region, Montgomery County school personnel, the general public, and 75 VT Corp of Cadets who attended to honor Dr. Robert “Bob” Denton for his dedication to the Rice Center for Leadership Development. Proceeds from the breakfast go toward the club’s Coats for Kids campaign, which provides coats and other outerwear for children in Montgomery County elementary schools.
Funds raised for Coats for Kids included the Donating 4 Denton Dollars campaign created by Dr. Robert “Bob” Denton and his wife, Dr. Rachel Holloway, and this year featured a $2,000 donation/match challenge. In support of that effort, Bull & Bones Brewhaus and Grill, with restaurants in Blacksburg and Christiansburg, held a two-day fundraiser and contributed $400 to the donation/match challenge. And lastly, with more than 52 individual donations to meet the $2,000 goal, club members are grateful and humbled by the generosity of the surrounding community in achieving this goal. Rotary’s motto is “Service Above Self” and this event proved to be more than a club goal — the community embraced this philosophy and rose to the occasion. The success of the pancake breakfast ensures more school children will have a warm coat to wear this winter.
