Virginia Tech cross country dominated the Hokie Invitational on Friday, Sept. 18, sweeping the podium for the women’s 6K and men’s 8K and topping the team scores at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course.
earned first for the Hokies in the women’ s 6K, finishing in a personal best of 21:06.8. and rounded out the podium, crossing the line with personal bests of 21:08.4 and 21:14.5, respectively. Also scoring for Tech, took fifth in a new personal best of 21:28.4, and placed eighth with a time of 21:51.9.
In a final burst to the finish in the men’s 5K, and crossed the line separated by only three tenths of a second. DeCambre’s effort earned him first place and a new personal best of 24:23.5, and Kelly a 24:23.8. The freshman made his mark with a third-place finish in 24:40.3. earned seventh with a time of 25:05.4, and took ninth in 25:14.2 to also score for the Hokies.
Lyman broadcasting assistant
Virginia Tech Athletics announced the hiring of Jake Lyman to the role of assistant director of broadcasting for Virginia Tech Sports Network Thursday afternoon. Lyman’s duties will include play-by-play broadcasting for the Hokies’ women’s basketball and baseball teams as well as assisting with day-to-day operations of the Virginia Tech Sports Network, hosting digital content, and overseeing podcast efforts.
Lyman, who graduated from Virginia Tech’s sports media and analytics program in 2022, has been the voice of Vanderbilt’s women’s basketball program for the past four seasons as the Commodores have seen a resurgence under head coach Shea Ralph. He was on the call in 2024 when Vanderbilt made the NCAA tournament for the first time in a decade and was also a part of the squad in 2026 that finished second in the SEC and reached the Sweet Sixteen.
Tech fall softball schedule
Virginia Tech softball announced the 2026 fall schedule. The slate features five total matchups and three chances to catch the Hokies at Tech Softball Park.
The Hokies first travel to Radford, Va., for a road matchup against the Highlanders on Saturday, Oct. 3 at noon. Tech then welcomes the Highlanders to Tech Softball Park for a home game Friday, Oct. 16 at 5 p.m.
Tech hits the road for a matchup against George Mason on Saturday, Oct. 24 at noon before returning to Blacksburg for back-to-back Friday night intrasquads on Oct. 30 and Nov. 6. Both intrasquads begin at 5 p.m.
All fall ball games at Tech Softball Park are free and open to the public.
