Work continues on the drag strip at Pulaski Motorsports Park with a possible mid-July opening planned.

Officials at Pulaski Motorsports Park say a closed drag strip near Radford will open by mid-July.

Promoter Stacy Compton said last week work has been ongoing on the surface at the 1/8th length drag strip located adjacent to the round track.

“The drag way is ready except for some timing issues. Once we work those out, we should be able initially start street car grudge matches in mid-July,” he said.

Additional work has been done on the drag surface, but before any major other racing can be done, promoters need to lay down some rubber.

“That will help with the racing, and we are installing a gravel pit at the end of the drag strip. This was requested by racers if we are going use the drag strip,” Compton said.

Drag racing has not been at the track for over three years when Junior Drag was stealing the headlines.

Compton said Junior Drag competition is being considered to add to any future schedule. More details will be released next month.

The track promoter also made a major announcement for admission of the next two local races. $4 per ticket will be given to the “Vittles for Veterans” program.

Vittles for Vets is a non-profit 501 C-3 organization that was founded in December 2014 by veterans for veterans and has a primary purpose is to distribute gift cards for nutritious food to qualifying veterans. The local group is based in Radford.
