
John Gemmill Hutchins, 87, passed away peacefully June 15, 2026.
Born in Radford Jan. 2, 1939, John lived a life defined by service, hard work, and dedication to his family. He proudly served his country after being drafted into the United States Army. Following his military service, he worked at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, where he was a dedicated employee for many years.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louise Trump Hutchins; his stepson, Wayne; his brothers, Argell Hutchins, Bill Hutchins and Robert Hutchins; and his sister, Helen Rupe.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Lora, Mike and Timmy; his sister, Ida Shupe; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many friends and extended family members who will cherish his memory.
John will be remembered for his patriotism, strong work ethic and the love he shared with his family. His kindness, quiet strength and dedication to those he cared about will not be forgotten.
The family will forever treasure the memories they shared with him and find comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.
May he rest in peace.
A graveside service will be held at noon Friday, July 10, 2026, in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Christiansburg.
The Hutchins family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
