Celebrating the Fourth of July and the semiquincentennial

Well the 4th of July is around the corner. This year is the big one. Usually July 4th comes and goes; a hot dog here and there with a piece of watermelon and a beer. But this year is different we have been a nation for 250 years.

We should feel lucky that we as individuals made it and the country survived the ups and downs of life. 250 years is something to be proud of as history goes. It has not been easy, not only have we been in numerous wars, but almost constant conflicts internally and externally. The country has had its share of presidents, some good, some bad, even before Trump. But we have made it. The country has also faced flooding, droughts, hurricanes, ice storms and all kinds of medical problems.

Today there are 350 million people in this country. Having that many people cooperate and even smiling once in a while is something special for a country our size. Satisfying the different personalities, cultures, attitudes and, of course, egos is not an easy task.

Even within families, you got the extroverts and the introverts, people who are always right, and those who will tell you they knew an idea was not going to work and that you were wasting your time.

Just because some relative said your idea was not going to work, is not a reason to not to try, or quit trying. The country might be 250 years old, but never have people had more ideas and ways to produce materials or methods to make this country more productive than today.

The day everyone sits and does nothing is the day the country fails to progress and improve. That is the day the country starts going downhill and not being the strongest, most productive country in the world.

So, to have a couple more successful birthdays for the nation and the family, we all need to try to work together, bend a little, for each member of the family, organization and country, if we do that, there is no reason why we won’t see birthday 500 for this country. I will vote for that!

Thought for the Day:

“You’ve got to be optimistic to be a Democrat and you got to be a humorist to stay one.
