In last week’s column I had several quotes by Will Rogers. Will had a way of saying things that made sense and made you smile.
I had several requests to include a few additional quotes of Will in this week’s column. Many of Will’s quotes made almost 100 years ago still apply today.
“Congress meets tomorrow morning, let us all pray, ‘Oh Lord, give us strength to bear that which is about to be inflicted upon us. Be merciful with them, oh Lord, for they know not what they are doing.” Will Rogers-12/6/1926
“I have a scheme for stopping war. It’s this; no nation is allowed to enter a war ‘til they have paid for the last one.”
“Make every speaker, as soon as he tells all he knows, to sit down. That will shorten speeches so much they will be finished by lunch.”
“I love a dog, he does nothing for political reasons.”
“Woe to be a weak nation if they live by a strong one.”
“Politics is the only sporting event in the world where they don’t pay for second place. For a man to run second in any other event, it’s an honor. But, if you’re running for president, it’s not an honor, it’s a pity.”
“Politicians, I know them all, and occasionally boost ‘em when they do something meritorious, which is rare.”
Rogers wrote over two million words while he was alive (died in plane crash in 1935), if a reader was interested in where to locate additional information on quotes, contact google, the library or me.
I’m sure I am like many readers who wonder what Will would have to say about Mr. Trump.
