RADFORD- Children’s author Tom Angleberger recently visited Radford’s elementary schools as part of the Radford Reads program, a collaboration between Radford University and the Radford Public Library.
Angleberger is author of the New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling Origami Yoda children’s book series, among other books. He appeared at McHarg and Belle Heth schools.
“The students so enjoyed getting to help him write stories,” Belle Heth announced on social media. “Thanks to all of the people who made this visit possible. Each third grader left with a signed copy of one of his books!”
“The kids loved him and were in fits of giggles as he addressed them all by “Larry” (which was usually not their name),” McHarg posted. “Students contributed words for poetry, ideas for stories, and even drew characters. This was an impressive group, and they were so engaged – they even created three whole stories in a half hour!”
“Thank you to Mr. Keister, McHarg Elementary Principal; Kelly Wheeler, Title I Teacher; and Sarah Sells, School Librarian. McConnell Library at Radford University provided signed copies of Dino Poet for each child to take home. Thanks to Radford University Teaching Resources Center Meghan Viet for her work on the Radford Reads with Radford University committee! Radford Reads and Radford University has been bringing authors yearly to Radford since 2018.”
The Radford Reads with Radford University Committee consists of Meghan Viet, Director of the Teaching Resources Center of Radford University; Beth Johnson, Director of Library Operations, McConnell Library of Radford University Libraries; and Elizabeth Sensabaugh, Director of Radford Public Library.
