With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Christiane Nicole Cost of Blacksburg, who left this world on April 7, 2026, at the age of 50, surrounded by those who loved her most.
Christiane was a devoted wife, mother and sister whose life was defined by her unwavering love for her family and her deep connection to her community. More than anything, she loved people. She had a rare and beautiful way of making every person she encountered feel seen, valued, and deeply cared for. To know her was to feel known and to be loved without condition.
Her faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. Through every season, both joyful and challenging, she leaned into her belief with grace, courage, and steadfast conviction. Her faith not only guided her but also overflowed into the way she loved and served others.
For nearly three years, Christiane faced Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) with remarkable strength, dignity, and resilience. Even in the face of unimaginable hardship, she remained a light to others, choosing love, connection, and faith over fear. When the time came, she made the courageous and deeply personal decision to pass on her own terms. In her final moments, she was surrounded by a room filled with family and friends and was held in the arms of her children, a reflection of the love she spent her life giving so freely.
Christiane’s greatest joy was the people in her life. She poured herself into her family, her friendships, and her community in a way that left a lasting mark on everyone she met. Whether you knew her personally, crossed paths with her briefly, or were touched by her through the lives of her children, you were part of something she deeply cherished.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Jonathan; her cherished children, Jonah and Julianne; her daughter-in-law, Naomi; her siblings, Stacey and Jason; and many extended family members and dear friends who will carry her memory forward.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Salem LewisGale ICU and the Sheila S. Strauss Hospice House, as well as to her many caregivers and friends who supported her throughout her battle with this disease. In particular, we are deeply grateful to Amanda Morgan, who provided exceptional care to Christiane, became a dear friend to her and our family, and remained by our side, even beyond her duties, in Christiane’s final days.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that her legacy of love, faith, and compassion will live on in all who knew her.
All who knew Christiane, loved her, or were impacted by her life, whether directly or through the lives of those she loved, are warmly invited and encouraged to attend. Gathering together in this way is what she would have wanted, and it honors her memory by reflecting the depth, reach, and meaning of the community she built and cared for so deeply.
A viewing will be held at McCoy Funeral Home Friday, April 17, 6- 8 p.m.
A graveside service will take place Saturday, April 18, 11 a.m. at Memorial Gardens in the New River Valley. Attendees are asked to arrive at Blacksburg Christian Fellowship by 10:40 a.m., where we will walk together to the cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at Blacksburg Christian Fellowship at noon, following the graveside service.
Expressions of sympathy are welcome in the form of flowers or donations. The family kindly asks that donations be made either through Christiane’s memorial GoFundMe or to Blacksburg Christian Fellowship, 2300 N Main St, Blacksburg, VA 24060, in honor of her life, legacy, and love for the Lord.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23”
